The massive appearance of the Mastiff is not without a touch of grace. The body is generally rectangular in shape. Muscular definition exists from the neck to the hocks. The breed is massive and in proportion to its body. The neck is very thick and angles to a straight back and sloping shoulders. The wrinkles that exist at the crown of its head to its nose are probably one of its distinguishing features. The ears, nose, and mouth are dark. The ears are small and triangular in shape; however, they are rounded at the tip instead of pointed. The nose is prominent. Its coat is short and coarse and lies close to its skin. The tail hangs close to the hocks.
