Everything about the appearance of the English Pointer hints at its noble ancestry. Its most famous characteristic is its stance that is alert and strong. The torso is lean. Its front legs are straight while the back legs are very angular. The head is medium size and rests atop an elongated neck that is a little angular and muscular. The ears fold slightly toward the face and hang slightly past the jaw. The eyes and nose are prominent yet distinguished. When the breed is pointing the tail is straight and in line with the back.
