The coat of the Dutch Shepherd is its distinguishing feature. The breed consists of three types, which vary according to the coat: shorthaired, longhaired, and wirehaired. Aside from the coat, all three types are identical in appearance. It has muscular limbs and a well-balanced frame. Its chest is deep and the ribcage is slightly sprung. The facial features are dark and it has a pointed muzzle. The ears are large and triangular. Its tail hangs down below the hocks. The coat is long, short, or coarse.
