Wrinkles on its massive head are the distinctive quality of the Dogue de Bordeaux. Its general appearance is harsh. The body is somewhat low to the ground and massive. It is not overweight, but its muscular build and short stature gives it the look. Another distinct quality of the breed is its mouth. The mouth is composed of an excessive amount of skin and fur that hangs down and obscures the jaw line. Its ears hang down inward toward its face. The neck is thick and features an excessive amount of loose skin. The tail hangs down almost to the hocks.
