Description
The Samoyed is an attractive breed with a distinct coat that is very thick and profuse. It has a triangular-shaped head with an average size muzzle. It has a stop that is somewhat prominent. Its ears are medium size. The ears are wide at the base and narrow to a slight point at the top. Its facial features are very expressive. Its neck transitions smoothly to its straight and moderately muscled neck. The chest is broad and deep. It has a long tail.
Temperament
The Samoyed is a friendly and easy-going breed. It exhibits a devotion that states its desire to please its owner. It is not an aggressive breed with other dogs. It is playful with both its family and people who visit their home. Its friendliness is welcomed, but it precludes it from being a good watchdog, although it tends to bark excessively. This breed is very intelligent. This coupled with its desire to please makes it very trainable.

Health Problems
The Samoyed may develop gastric torsion and hip dysplasia. Some types may also develop progressive retinal atrophy (PRA).
Ideal Living Conditions
The Samoyed loves outdoors, but it prefers to be indoors where its family spends most of its time. The breed can spend most days outdoors and sleep indoors. Its coat will protect it when the weather is cold. It should spend less time outdoors during warm temperatures.
Exercise
It is important that the Samoyed obtain daily opportunities of exercise. When it doesn't get its exercise, it has the tendency to become discontent. The exercise that this breed needs go beyond the physical. It should have also have regular mental workouts in the form of training.
Life Expectancy
The Samoyed lives an average of 10-14 years.
Litter Size
The Samoyed has an average of 5-9 puppies.
Grooming
The unique coat of the Samoyed should be brushed at least a few times each week. Brushing will remove any excess fur. This breed does not shed heavily during shedding season, but its coat should be brushed more often during this time.
