Description
The Saint Bernard is a large breed whose physical is strong and powerful. Its frame is wide. The back is level. Its neck is thick with a moderate amount of dewlap. The neck is angular and extends upon slightly sloping shoulders. Like its neck, the chest is also moderately angled. The chest is also very deep. it has a massive head. The ears are set will above eye level and hang down at its jaw line. The nose is prominent and the yes are average in size. The breed's legs are moderately muscled. The legs in the front are straight and the legs in the back are well angled. The breed has a long tail that hangs down past the hocks. Its coat is thick and short.
Temperament
The Saint Bernard is in the category of breeds that have a natural temperament for family life. It is a gentle breed that is loyal and affectionate. It is great with children as long as they are not too small. The breed is very large and may inadvertently injure a child that is very small. School-aged children tend to do best with this breed. With all of its good points, the Saint Bernard can be stubborn, although not to the point of sever disobedience.

Health Problems
There are a few health problems associated with the Saint Bernard. Hip dysplasia is a common condition that develops in dogs. The Saint Bernard is susceptible to developing this condition because of its size. The breed may also develop epilepsy, diabetes, and ectropion.
Ideal Living Conditions
If the Saint Bernard lives indoors it will become inactive. This breed is better suited for outdoor living conditions. If regular outings for physical activity are assured, the breed may successful live indoors. When kept outdoors, this breed must be enclosed within a well-built fence.
Exercise
The Saint Bernard requires regular exercise, but it should be excessive. This breed does not require intense physical activity. A daily walk is sufficient for this breed.

The Saint Bernard tends to live 8-10 years.

The Saint Bernard tends to have 10 puppies.
Grooming
Grooming is minimal for the Saint Bernard. In addition to routine grooming, this breed should have its coat brushed regularly. When the coat is washed, only a gentle shampoo should be used.
