Description
The Rottweiler is a breed with an appearance that most people recognize. Its coat is a deep black with brownish-red markings on its face, legs, and feet. Its coat consists of a short and thick bottom layer and a similiar top layer. It has an average size head and similar size facial features. The ears are also average in size and "V" shape. The ears are erect at the base, but fold over. The legs are heavy and strong. The legs are average in length. The forelegs are positioned straight under its body and the back legs are positioned angular in relation to its body. Its neck is thick with muscular, strong, and angled to the back. The breed's chest is moderately wide and deep. The rib cage expands nicely. The tail should be docked.
Temperament
The temperament of the Rottweiler is often misrepresented. People often associate the breed with aggressive or vicious behavior. The breed is actually a pleasant breed that can be a warm and loyal breed for any home. It tends to treat strangers with distrust. It is courageous and confident. The breed has a hard-working nature that seeks to guard and protect. It is recommended that it be raised with other pets that may live in the same home. Training the breed is not a difficult task since it enjoys learning.

Health Problems
The Rottweiler is generally a healthy breed. However, there are some health conditions that are associated with this breed. The most common and serious health problems include hip and elbow dysplasia. Some types may develop epilepsy and cataracts.
Ideal Living Conditions
The Rottweiler can easily adapt to indoor or outdoor living conditions, but it is recommended that this breed reside outdoors where it has more space. Climate is an issue for this breed. It is more suitable for cooler climates. The breed typically does not do well in warm climates.
Exercise
A walk is not sufficient exercise for the Rottweiler. This breed needs physical exercise, such as running. The breed should have significant training to keep it mental stimulated. Although the breed will remain active in an outdoor environment, it can easily become discontent and destructive if it doesn't have an opportunity to run free in an open space.
Life Expectancy
The average life expectancy of the Rottweiler is 8-9 years.
Litter Size
The Rottweiler has an average of 4-10 puppies.
Grooming
The smooth coat of the Rottweiler only needs occasional brushing or a wipe down with a cloth. The breed is not a heavy shedder, so only a slightly more care is needed during the shedding season.
