| Description |
| The Rhodesian Ridgeback has a build that is consistent with breeds of above-average physical capabilities. Its frame is lean and well muscled. Its back is sturdy and somewhat sloping. The straight front legs and well-defined, angled back legs enable the breed to move with quickness and agility. The neck is average in length and extends to high-set shoulders. Its head and muzzle are long. There is a prominent stop. The ears are set just above eye level. They are average-sized and fold downward. Its coat is thick, short, and shiny. |

| Temperament |
| The Rhodesian Ridgeback is an easy-going breed, but it is not recommended for young or small children since it may play too rough. This breed is courageous and protects its family. It is a good breed for guarding property. It is generally an obedient breed, but has a tendency to display dominant temperament. Training the breed during puppyhood will help to lessen its desire for dominance. |

An owner that is able to provide the breed with opportunities of vigorous exercise is recommended. This breed can sustain its endurance during highly physical activities, such as running and swimming. |
