| Description |
| A distinctive characteristic of the Otterhound is its massive head. The head is moderately long and has a vague stop. It has dark facial features. The ears are moderately long and hang down past the chin. The breed has a straight back with a tail that is both set and carried high. The neck is very muscular and slightly angles to the back. The legs are well balanced. The front legs are straight and the back legs are angular. The hocks are well muscled. The breed's coat, which is distinctive, has two layers. The bottom layer is short and thick. The top layer of the coat is also thick, but tends to be more rough to the touch. |

| Temperament |
| The Otterhound has a very pleasant demeanor. Most types are bred as working dogs and may require significant training to become sociable household pets. With socialization training, this breed generally gets along with everyone in its household. While it will do fine with children, it is not recommended that children that are very young be left alone with this breed. It gives and wants affection. If other pets, including dogs, exist in the home, the Otterhound should get along peacefully with these animals. It is an energetic breed that can offer a family fun, love, and loyalty. |
