Description
The Cavapoo is a hybrid breed that is developed by crossing a Poodle with a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. The appearance of this breed may vary since its parents are two separate pure breeds, however, there are some characteristic of its appearance that are very common. The most distinctive characteristic of this breed is its coat. Both of its parents have a luxurious coat, so this breed's coat is always luxurious. The texture of the coat may be curly or feathered. The body of this breed is shorter than average, but very strong. It has dark facial features that are typically brown in color. The ears are usually set well above the eyes and hang low past its chin. The neck is elongated and transitions to its straight back. Its tail is long and usually hangs freely past the hocks.
Temperament
The Cavapoo is a breed whose temperament can vary. One definite characteristic of its temperament is its gentle nature. Most types should be easy going and sociable since both of its parents have these characteristics. It is a playful breed that enjoys interacting with well-behaved children. It has patience and attempts to protect its family members. Since one of its parents is a Poodle, it may have a tendency to want a significant amount of attention and special treatment.
Height and Weight
The Cavapoo stands about 11-15 inches and weighs up to 20 pounds.
Health Problems
The Cavapoo basically inherits health problems associated with the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Poodle. These conditions include cataracts, epilepsy, progressive retinal atrophy (PRA), and ear problems.
Ideal Living Conditions
The Cavapoo should adapt easily to indoor or outdoor living conditions. However, if the breed inherits more of the Poodle characteristics, it will probably be more suitable for indoor living conditions. If it resides outdoors it does not require a significant amount of space. Outdoor types should be kept within an average-size yard.
Exercise
How much exercise the Cavapoo needs depends highly on its living conditions. Indoor types tend to be less active than those that reside outdoors. The breed has an endurance level that can tolerate both vigorous and low-level physical activity.
Life Expectancy
The Cavapoo has a life expectancy of 12-16 years.
Litter Size
The Cavapoo has an average litter size of 3-8 puppies.
